Today, we're spotlighting two stellar members of the Brainbase team who are both vital to our success! Jonathan Row is our outstanding Director of People and Culture, who has transformed our company into a true family. Vivian Nguyen is our Director of Demand Generation and came to the Brainbase Team just last month. The expertise and experience she brings has already impacted and energized multiple departments.

Give a brief history of your previous experience, your current position, and what made you decide to be a part of Brainbase.

Jonathan: I started my career in wealth management. Previously, I was at a start-up and ended up pivoting into People Operations after realizing that I like working with the internal team more than customers. I really like building cultures, and helping advance and develop team members. I joined Brainbase because of the fast-growing team, the exciting product, and the ability to build People Operations from the ground up.

Vivian: As a digital/growth marketer, I've been in industries ranging from senior care franchising, restaurants, SMBs, to technology. I'm very passionate about marketing and I love helping companies grow. What ultimately drove my decision to join Brainbase? The great team, industry-changing technology, and the opportunity to have an impact on Brainbase's growth.

Any upcoming projects you’re excited about?

Jonathan: I am really excited about our cultural initiatives to create a high-performing atmosphere. I am also very excited about the benefits package enhancements that we continue to put in place for our team members.

Vivian: I'm a data nerd, and one of the projects that I'm looking forward to is analyzing our current database and building out our demand gen strategy, spreadsheets galore!

How do you think Brainbase is changing the licensing industry?

Jonathan: The industry is very antiquated in general. So many companies are not efficiently managing their licensing operations. Brainbase allows companies to more efficiently manage their license operations so brands can focus more on their current relationships and expanding to new ones. 

Vivian: Being able to have an impact and make a difference in a company is very important to me. Success for me would be company growth at Brainbase and personal growth based on my new skill sets acquired or new industry knowledge.

What motivates you? How do you measure success (at Brainbase, or personally)?

Jonathan: I am motivated by the people around me. Being able to work with such a talented group of people every day is inspiring and makes me want to do more to advance our mission. 

I measure success by how well I am able to promote those around me and help advance their careers. The more the team is advancing in its goals the more successful I consider myself.

What about working in growth and team culture, respectively, are you most passionate about?

Jonathan: I love working in a growth atmosphere because it allows you not just to present problems, but actively work to solve them. As we grow the way we do things today will continue to evolve and being able to present solutions for how we do so is exciting. 

The biggest thing I've learned is that you don't get what you don't ask for. So many fall into the trap of complaining behind closed doors but never ask for what they want, never provide feedback, and don't express how they truly feel. I learned to speak up and relentlessly pursue something if I truly believe it's the right thing. 

Vivian: There's something new every day and everyone is very collaborative. It's interesting, great ideas gets executed daily. I've learned that there's no reason to be shy in this environment, there's so many great people here that are willing to share their knowledge. All you have to do is reach out.

Do you have any after-work hobbies/activities?

Jonathan: I play on an LGBTQ+ tennis and dodgeball league! I've met so many amazing connections and lifelong friends through these leagues.

I love to ski! I try to make it out on the slopes a few times a year. My favorite mountain is Deer Valley. I also love traveling. I am excited to visit our team in Estonia in September!

Vivian: In my spare time I love playing board games/card games/video games like Gloomhaven, Magic the Gathering, and Diablo!
