In August 2017, we announced our vision for Brainbase and that our first product, a tool to help companies manage their trademark licensing businesses, was available in open beta. We introduced core features like sales reporting, royalty tracking, automated invoicing, digital asset management, product approvals, and notifications. It was also the first step in our much broader mission of making the IP industry more open, efficient, and accessible. Our team spent the past year iterating on our product, learning from our early customers, and developing new perspectives on what it’s going to take to build an IP platform that is 10X better than anything on the market. Today, I am excited to announce that our licensing management tool is officially coming out of open beta and will be available publicly in October –– we are calling it Brainbase Assist.

Current State of Licensing Management

The bar for licensing management was set pretty low. A significant percentage of companies that generate millions (and even billions) of dollars in IP licensing sales are still using spreadsheets and email to manage their businesses. Others are using old, clunky enterprise software that often takes several months and tens of thousands of dollars to implement. Not only that, the people using the software don’t like it and are forced to spend thousands more on product training. Incumbents who charge customers an arm and a leg to be trained on their unintuitive software sounded a bit backward to us. We believe there’s significant room for improvement and a lot left to be desired in this space.

What’s New With Brainbase Assist

Brainbase Assist is to other licensing management software what smartphones were to flip phones. A flip phone can certainly help with the basics, but a smartphone gives you superpowers.
